<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Last week, THE TECH-LICIOUS reported that a Youtube user/eccentric inventor by the name of Colin Furze had invented himself a pair of real, working Wolverine claws, effectively turning himself into the mutant minus the healing factor.<a href="http://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/x-men-enthusiast-walks-ceiling-homemade-magneto-shoes/#!RR33P" style="color: #0092dd;" target="_blank">Well, now he’s also turned himself into the master of magnetism, himself – Magneto</a>. Well, kind of, anyway.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">It seems Mr. Furze (how’s that for a mutant name?) is slightly obsessed with the Uncanny X-Men. While it’s understandable to want to be Magneto, of course, one doesn’t imagine that many people have actually attempted to undergo the transformation. But, Mr. Furze doesn’t seem like most people, and that’s definitely a good thing. Using a pair of Vans shoes and countless magnetic coils from old microwaves, he created himself a pair of working Magneto boots.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Furze documents some of the process in a Youtube video – but by far the most important thing the video shows is that his shoes actually allow him to WALK ON HIS CEILING. That’s right – he figured out a way to create a strong enough magnetic current to support his entire body weight – and all this from parts of old microwaves in a scrap yard. You see, you just never know what you could find in a junkyard. And you never know what kind of a super-villian you could turn yourself into with old appliance parts.</span></div>

Robot Linda to meet the public at London's Natural History Museum

This month, the public will get the chance to meet a robot at the Natural History Museum in London that may be a bit kinder to furniture and tabbies. The University of Lincoln’s Linda robot, which will mingle with visitors, is designed to learn about its surroundings and make it easier to work human environments.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Looking like a pair of eyes in a fishbowl stuck on traffic cone, Linda is a mobile robot developed by the University of Lincoln’s School of Computer Science. Its name is a reference to “Lindum Colonia,” the ancient name for the city of Lincoln. It’s one of six robots built for the £7.2 million (US$12 million) <a href="http://strands.acin.tuwien.ac.at/index.html" style="background-color: transparent; color: #1e8dd7; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">STRANDS</a> project, which aims to produce robots suitable for working with security guards and staff in nursing homes.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Most state-of-the-art robots are given maps of their surroundings, or create them when they begin operations in an area. This works, but human environments tend to change over time as furniture is moved, people come and go, and objects disappear and reappear. These degrade the robot’s map as anomalies build up. The result is that most robots can only operate for a few hours before needing to restart and remap the area.</span></div>

By constantly studying shapes, people, and activities, Linda can build models and “learn” about an area as it identifies changes and alters its behavior to accommodate them.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Security and nursing are an ideal first application because those environments are relatively stable and predictable, so they’re easy for Linda to learn. According to the development team, Linda can currently map a building and run on its own for 30 days. The goal is to get Linda to operate for 120 days straight by the end of the project, though the system could potentially operate autonomously for months at a time, and in less structured environments, such as a museum full of visitors.</span></div>

It will have many possible applications and taking Linda to the Natural History Museum is a fantastic opportunity for people to see how robots like this will, one day, be able to aid and assist humans in a variety of roles.”</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The director of Google’s Driverless car project, Chris Urmson, said that the goal of the project was to run lots of tests in California where <a href="http://www.google.com/about/company/facts/locations/" style="color: #0092dd;" target="_blank" title="Googel Head Office Info">Google is based</a>.  His argument is that driverless cars will eventually improve road safety which is mostly caused by human error.  He stated that this development is “an important step toward improving road safety and transforming mobility for millions of people”. They also said that it was actually safer taking all controls out of the car because human error did not improve if drivers suddenly have to take over the vehicle. Urmson says, “We saw stuff that made us a little nervous.”  After all, its hard enough to fix a problem while driving, if you are paying attention.  You either trust the machine, or you don’t.</span></div>

The inflatable tent joins a kayak rack in giving the car a sporty edge.</span></div>

The headliner is the A3 clubsport quattro concept. Based on the S3 sedan, the car's 2.5-liter five-cylinder TFSI engine is cranked up to 525 hp – that's 211.7 hp per liter, 6.4 lb (2.9 kg)/hp. A series of modifications, including a larger turbocharger, modified intercooler and redesigned intake and exhaust systems, contribute to the power boost, which also comes with 443 lb-ft of torque available between 2,300 and 6,000 rpm. The A3 clubsport quattro shoots to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds before reaching a top speed over 192 mph (310 km/h). A launch control system and electronic stabilization help drivers effectively hone all that output.</span></div>

The concept also has an air brake system that deploys at higher speeds. The rear spoiler flips to near-vertical position to assist the disc brakes, with Audi claiming that the system decreases stopping distance by close to 40 feet (12 m) when used at 155 mph (250 km/h).</span></div>

"We have pushed the limits in every respect with this show car: power, dynamics, sound, design."</span></div>

The Magnetic Blue body is complemented by a CFRP-underlined, matte-aluminum-framed grille, CFRP side sill trims, a round metal fuel door and smaller side mirrors. Aerodynamic treatments include the aforementioned active rear spoiler, a rear diffuser and a front splitter.</span></div>

Today, the company announced that husband and wife team Eric and Irena Raymond have taken to the skies together, making the Duo the first solar-powered airplane to carry two people.</span><br />

Gizmag first got to chat with Eric Raymond about the Sunseeker Duo at the Green Air Show in Paris, France four years ago, where we were shown a mockup of the cockpit. Raymond turned to Kickstarter in 2012 to raise development funds. Construction was completed by the close of last year, followed by system tests and tweaks before heading up into the skies for solo runs.</div>

Solar Flight says that the Raymonds took off together in the company's third powered airplane from its test facility near Milan, Italy. For take off, the Duo uses energy harvested from the 1,510 solar cells on its wings and tail and stored in a battery pack in the fuselage. Once in the air, the airplane then cruises directly on solar power. The company claims that, with two people on board, it's capable of flights of 12 hours or more.</div>

"Flying the Duo, skimming the white fluffy clouds from above and playing on the sky, I feel like a bird," said Irena Raymond. "No limitations, a pure freedom. It’s so quiet. Compared to a normal airplane, it’s like night and day. You need very good headset in other powered airplanes, but in the Duo you can speak normally even when the motor is running full power, no headset needed. It is unbelievable."</div>

The Raymonds plan to make a 100 mile (160 km) trip to a neighboring airport next month to explore the Duo's cross-country capabilities as part of continuing flight tests.</div>

According to sources Android Silver, Google’s new Android programme,  is going to be a very big thing indeed and will see Google working with multiple firms on multiple devices, rather than one manufacturer and one device. The aim of the programme is to offer a premium Android experience, with participating firms receiving preferential treatment as regards software updates.</div>

Android Silver will allow Google to ensure that all Android devices have more consistency and quality, so that customers can have the best Android experience possible. For users that will potentially mean that there will be a bigger choice of high-end Android devices at more reasonable prices. These devices will also come free from the annoying bloatware and unwanted apps because manufacturers will have to adhere to Google’s strict specifications, greatly limiting how many non-Google apps can be pre-installed.</div>

Another advantage to the Silver programme will be that it should do away with the long-standing problem of fragmentation that has plagued Android for some time. Rather than varying customer support experiences and software versions, the Silver programme will ensure that customers receive the up to date version of Android and it is rumored that there will be a 24/7 customer support service through Google Hangouts. It is possible that Google will also offer to loan devices to those who have lost or had their devices stolen.</div>

Another motivation for Google is that it is well documented that Samsung plan to eventually drop Android, which could potentially leave Google with a big gap to fill, especially because Google needs users’ data. Silver will allow Google to minimize the damage so to speak, helping firms to better compete with Samsung and who knows, maybe it will make Samsung reconsider its decision.</div>

According to the <a href="https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/467544182304047104" style="color: #0092dd;" target="_blank">Twitter account @evleaks</a>, we could be seeing Android Silver by February 2015, the Tweet reads: <em> “There is no Nexus 6. Farewell, Nexus. Don’t worry, there’s a silver lining to this cloud… Android Silver, circa February 2015.”</em> By doing away with the Nexus brand, Google will be able to improve the overall Android standard and help it gain more control over its unique operating system.</div>
